Yoga, Meditation, and Breathwork

Yoga, meditation, and other practices involving mindfulness and breathwork have been utilized for thousands of years – and are still proving to contribute greatly to overall health and wellness. 

These practices have also proven to be essential components of full recovery from addiction, trauma, and other emotional and psychological impairments.

At APN Lodge, we strive to provide a well-rounded treatment program to our clients. This involves a comprehensive approach to adequately address physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Our clients participate regularly in a variety of mindfulness practices including various styles of yoga, meditation, and breathwork. These three different styles of exercise have a synergistic effect. At APN Lodge, we strive to give our clients every opportunity to learn new therapeutic techniques that can intensify the effectiveness of our program and provide helpful tools for life-long success.

Yoga

The word Yoga means “to join or yoke together,” and its practice is meant to bring harmony between the body and mind. The entire system of Yoga is built on three main structures: exercise, meditation, and breathing. The different exercises of Yoga are designed to increase the efficiency and total health of the human body.

Yoga is suitable for most adults of any age or physical condition. Even those with physical limitations can find a gentle Yoga routine to be beneficial. Yoga is not only a set of poses and exercises that make the body flexible and strong, but it also incorporates meditation and breathing, which are equally significant.

Benefits of a regular yoga practice include improved respiration, higher energy, greater vitality, body strengthening, focus to remove obsessive thinking and compulsivity, and mind-body balance. Our instructors are experienced in specific techniques to help stimulate the nervous system and heal the damaging effects of addiction and trauma.

Meditation

Meditation is a widely recognized practice for stress reduction and mental transformation. Regular meditation helps clients achieve a quieter mind, allowing for silence and healing from recurring stressors.

The practice of meditation has shown to be an excellent tool for those with increased levels of anxiety and depression. At APN Lodge, our instructors lead, teach, and guide clients through a variety of meditation methods that can be useful during healing. These techniques will include forms of mindfulness, transcendental, and guided meditations.

Our instructors will blend yoga and meditation styles to meet individual and group needs. Our instructors are experienced in both modern and ancient styles of meditation that can produce different results in the physiological and psychological levels for our clients.
Meditation is also a vital part of the 12-Step process. The 11th step emphasizes the importance of utilizing prayer and meditation for spiritual growth.

Breathwork

Breathwork is a practice in which the conscious control of breathing is meant to influence the client’s mental, emotional, and physical condition to provide a therapeutic effect. Breathwork and certain breathing techniques teach clients how to increase breath control to improve the health and function of both the body and mind while processing lingering emotions and thoughts.
