Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback is a method of self-regulation that uses brainwaves as a guide for determining which behaviors have the most positive effects on a person. Neurofeedback can improve mental focus, enhance quality of sleep, reduce anxiety, and more. It works through a series of sessions in which the patient is seated or laying down in a relaxed state with the neurofeedback leads placed at strategic places on the skull. During the sessions the brain is given feedback, or “rewards”, when it responds to visual or aural stimuli in a positive manner, thereby retraining the brain to improve its functioning. This has found success in many settings, including addiction recovery, and is considered to be a useful tool for preventing addiction relapse.
