Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress of past trauma.
What is EDMR and How Does It Work?
People often develop “blocks” that make them feel protected from feeling associated pain as a response to trauma. While this is a natural response to trauma, these blocks actually stunt our long-term ability to heal. Once the block is removed, the healing can begin. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps to remove barriers to healing by helping the brain process trauma in a safe environment with guided by a clinician to achieve a peaceful resolution.
Who Can Benefit from EDMR?
Studies show that EMDR therapy has benefits similar to those of psychotherapy and delivers them much more rapidly. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing can be especially helpful for those struggling with PTSD, substance abuse disorders, eating disorders, panic disorder, and various other conditions stemming from trauma and/or complicated grief.
EDMR at All Points North Lodge
Please Note: EMDR is not a guaranteed therapy at APN Lodge. The clinical team at All Points North Lodge will determine which clients may receive EMDR based on client diagnosis, clinical indication, and therapist availability. From there, our clinicians will work with you to develop a healing plan that is tailored to your specific needs.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps move trauma as a barrier in the brain so that the brain can self-soothe. This process help clients disrupt negative thought patterns they may hold about themselves stemming from traumatic events for even deeper healing.
