Ryan Azeltine DC is a chiropractor born and raised in Leadville, CO. He received his degree from the University of Western States, in Portland, OR, then returned to Colorado.

For the following five years he dedicated himself to a practice that focused largely on chronic pain patients, and worked very closely with the Colorado Institute for Pain Management. Dr. Azeltine was also one the official chiropractors for the players of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Minor League baseball team. He has a passion for the mountains of Colorado and for the people who live here.

Dr. Mark Berger, MD

Diagnostic Radiology Functional Medicine

Dr. Berger received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota, followed by a residency in diagnostic radiology at the Mayo Clinic and a fellowship at Duke University Medical Center. Over the course of his many years in practice, Dr. Berger recognized that most diseases visible on medical imaging are “self-inflicted”, caused by poor choices in diet and lifestyle.

Realizing conventional medicine typically treats just the symptoms of disease, with drugs and procedures, rather than addressing the underlying cause, he became dedicated to investigating the most effective forms of therapy that would allow individuals the greatest opportunity to optimize their health. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the University of Arizona, followed by certifications from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and the Cleveland Clinic Institute for Functional Medicine. Dr. Berger is committed to using these holistic range of therapies and techniques to enhance the health and vitality of his patients.

Dr. Joel Dekanich, DC, BSN, MS, DACBSP, CSC

Dr. Joel Dekanich has practiced in Vail for over twenty years. He is an Ironman competitor and ultra marathoner. His practice consists of treating high-level and professional athletes to weekend warriors and ‘everyday’ patients.

Dr. Dekanich is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians. He has been featured nationally on the cover of The American Chiropractor magazine and is part of the PGA medical/chiropractic staff. He worked with the Olympic Committee medical staff at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO, in preparation for the summer games in Beijing. He was selected to the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) medical staff for Team USA Track & Field at the ParaPan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, 2011, Paralympic Games, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2016 and the World Championships, London, UK in 2017.

Dr. Dekanich lectures for post graduate courses at multiple colleges across the country including the Olympic Training Center. He is an Adjunct Clinic Faculty of Palmer College and Northwestern Health Sciences University.

Jackie Garvey, PT, DPT, CKTP

Jackie hails from Minnesota and received a Master of Physical Therapy degree from The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth in 2005. She also holds an Associates of Arts degree from Mesabi Range Community and Technical College in Virginia, MN, which she earned in 2002.

Prior to moving to Vail, Jackie managed a full caseload of patients at Rochester Methodist Hospital Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, including post-surgical and neurological in-patients, with an emphasis in strokes, oncology, post-op of total knee arthroplasty, total hip arthroplasty and total shoulder arthroplasty. She has also performed physical therapy functions at Park Nicollet Clinic in St. Louis Park, MN, the Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington, MN and at Ham Lake Physical Therapy in Cedar, MN. Her services also include ACL reconstruction, total knee arthroplasty, total hip arthroplasty, rotator cuff repair, and back pain.

Susan Hansen, DC

Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Susan Hansen is a sports chiropractor, exercise physiologist, and functional movement provider. She received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in San Jose, California and also holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Arizona State University.

She is also certified in Active Release Technique (ART), Functional Range Conditioning (FRC), and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA).

Dr. Hansen utilizes movement patterns and analyzes altered kinematics in the human body to create specific treatment plans suited specifically to aiding the quickest recovery of each patient.

Dr. Hansen has lectured at local Vail Valley schools in human biomechanics, mechanical and neurosensory modalities, rehabilitative care, and neuromusculoskeletal disorders affecting different types of populations. She has also appeared on television multiple times in the Valley discussing the importance of integrative health care, as well as local radio stations spreading her knowledge of injury prevention.

Dr. Hanson is an avid soccer player, which allowed her to obtain a full-ride scholarship in undergraduate school.

Lisa Johnson, LMT

Licensed Massage Therapist

Being raised in a sports-oriented environment it was natural for Lisa to focus her practice on sports therapy and injury, landing jobs with two professional teams — the Baltimore Orioles and the Ravens — right out of school.

In addition to professional athletes she worked for many years with a local mountain bike team and also was a member of the National/Capital area Sports Massage team working with runners, cyclists, swimmers, etc.

She has a vast repertoire of therapies, including most forms of Massage, Myofascial, CranioSacral Therapy, Advanced Strain/Counterstrain, Neuromuscular Therapy, Reiki (master level), Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Acupressure, Japanese Zen Facial Massage and more.

Over her 30-year career she has gained a reputation with many local Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Acupuncturists, and Medical Doctors who refer their patients to her.

Katie Krall, Ms, Lmt, Cscs

Licensed Massage Therapist

Katie earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary where she trained and competed as a member of the United States World Cup Speed Skating Team.

She began her career as a Strength and Conditioning Coach, then realized she wanted to help athletes and clients in a more holistic capacity and obtained a degree as a Licensed Massage Therapist along with a Master’s of Science in Sports Medicine from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Katie has been blessed with the opportunity to serve as a strength and conditioning coach and massage therapist for Division I athletes, Olympic athletes, in addition to military and law enforcement officers. She is a native of Colorado and enjoys spending as much time as she can in the mountains, skiing, hiking, and biking.

Matthew Morris, PT, DPT

Dr. Morris is an Illinois native, having grown up in Winfield, a western suburb of Chicago. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology in 2011.

Mark J Pitcher, DC, MSC, EMT, CCSP

Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Mark Pitcher DC, MSc is a certified chiropractic sports physician, exercise physiologist, and emergency medical technician. He graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and has a Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Newfoundland.

He is also a certified in active release technique (ART). In addition to almost 20 years of experience in chiropractic practice, Dr. Pitcher has learned from some of the best in rehabilitative medicine, including renowned biomechanist Stuart McGill, anatomist and clinician Andry Vleeming and physical therapist Diane Lee.

Dr. Pitcher has lectured at the college and university levels in courses in joint mechanics, human factors, occupational ergonomics and sports biomechanics. He has been an invited lecturer for government agencies, and at the local and national levels. He currently travels around the US and Canada for TRX, teaching their Sports Medicine Instructor Course.

He has published a number of professional articles as well as scientific articles in journals such “Applied Physiology Nutrition and Metabolism” and “Journal of Sports Science and Medicine”. He regularly contributes health and fitness articles to the local paper, the Vail Daily.

Dr. Pitcher has been Medical Director for Team USA at the 2013 World Youth Championships and as sports chiropractor for athletic events such as the Honda Sessions, Gravity Games and the Mountain Dew Action Sports Tour. Dr. Pitcher is also currently an official chiropractor for Ski and Snowboard Club Vail.

Following completion of neurological training in 1967 at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C., Dr. Stieg served as Chief of Staff of the Neurology Department and as a flight surgeon in the US Air Force Medical Corp at Wilford Hall Hospital in San Antonio Texas until 1971.

From 1971 to 1977 Dr. Stieg was in private clinical practice of general neurology in Boulder and for 3 years concurrently served as Assistant Chief of the Neurology Department at Denver General Hospital (now Denver Health).

In late 1977 Dr. Stieg founded the Boulder Memorial Hospital Pain Clinic, the first multidisciplinary outpatient and inpatient pain treatment program in the state of Colorado. After leaving the Boulder Memorial Hospital 5 years later Dr. Stieg founded the Colorado Rehabilitation Institute in Boulder, an outpatient multidisciplinary pain treatment center.

Over the subsequent years Dr. Stieg has founded, directed, seen patients and taught in a variety of other clinical settings and geographical locations including Boulder, Greeley, Broomfield, Aurora, Frisco and Denver, Colorado, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, serving patients with brain injuries, chronic pain and related addiction disorders. This included service as the Medical Director of the Brain Injury Program at Spalding Hospital in Denver for several years.

From 1990-1995 he also served as Medical Director and a member of the Board of Directors of the Greeley Center for Independent Living, a non-profit organization providing assisted living and related health services to patients with brain injuries and diseases, and until 2014 served as Medical Director of the Centennial Rehabilitation Associates, a private institution in Aurora that offered several outpatient programs for patients with traumatic brain injuries, chronic pain and concurrent psychiatric disorders, including addiction to prescription and illicit drugs.
